Why I will never sell my photos to a stock photography agency (or, Getty Images are a pack of fuckheads)

This was a long, stupid rant that I've self-censored. Sorry about that. The original's out there if you want it that badly.

P.S. Don't sell your photos to Getty.

Tis a nasty dog-eat-dog world we live in, run by people with money for people with money. Justice is for those who can afford it.

The reason Getty react like this is simple, it scares everyone else out of "borrowing" an image and thinking they can get away with it.
At the end of the day, your friend stole from a powerful company with a lot of influence and I'm not going to lie, I'd side with them over the "little guy who thinks it's ok" any day.

Copyright is becoming increasingly difficult to enforce on the Internet, which translates into "you have to be an evil fuckhead (LIKE GETTY WHO ARE A PACK OF FUCKHEADS) to enforce it". And I will not do that, ever. I would never fuck people myself, and likewise there is no way in hell that I will sit back and watch the money roll in while a stock photography agency does it on my behalf.

My friend got drunk once and got caught driving, they gave him a pretty big fine. Sure he broke the law through ignorance but come on you try telling him that! They were fuckheads for catching him!

Hello, anon who got upset enough to post four times. A few observations:

1) I never said that I only think it's wrong to send nastygrams like that because because he was my friend; not being one who has ever received a threatening email from Getty (or being someone who would give them any reason to) I didn't know they did this. If I'd found it out some other way, I'd still think they're fucks. But hey, don't pretend that shit doesn't hit you harder when it hits closer to home, not until you're spending as much money feeding a family in the third world as you are spending to feed your kids.

2) If you think copyright infringement is in the same category as drink-driving, then your values are not mine and you gain nothing from arguing with me.

3) If you want to talk about stealing, then let's talk about the many, many public domain photographs over which Getty falsely claim a copyright, without so much as attributing the original photographer (and I wonder how people using *those* images have been sent a nastygram by Getty, don't you?). That makes them either fuckheads, or incompetent hypocrites.

Continue.
